Think West is a new festival of philosophy and culture across Melbourne’s inner west from 6-20 November. It features more than 40 workshops, tours, classes and special events exploring the themes of wisdom, resilience and social change.
The three week program is produced by The School of Life and Highpoint Shopping Centre in association with a broad range of organisations with a connection to Melbourne’s inner west. I’ve booked myself into sessions with author and educator John Marsden and Libby on Childhood and Unlearning Education, the opening of the Westography photography exhibition and a sensory walk of Highpoint (I’ve previously attended a sensory walk of Melbourne with Dr Nadine Cameron and it was EXCELLENT).
I am also part of the program!
On Saturday 12 November 12-5pm VU at Metrowest in Nicholson St Footscray is hosting ‘Think West Children’s Day’, a free one-day festival for children. There are free workshops including craft, science experiments, exploring your inner philosopher, storytelling, reading and more.
Book Swap Bike is a mobile library and book swapping event run out of the Danish Christiana cargo bike. Families can bring a book to swap or borrow a book to read together in the pop up reading space.
Book Swap Bike’s Little Big Ideas is also an opportunity for children to have a voice in their community. To express their ‘Big Ideas’ for their lives, their neighborhoods, their society and their world.
As part of Book Swap Bike’s Little Big Ideas, families and young children will be invited to decorate repurposed wooden crates into reading nooks with their own vision of ‘something small’ or their ‘big idea’. They may choose to draw something, write something or pose a question.
