myer christmas windows 2015

The Christmas windows at Myer are an institution in Melbourne and this year celebrates 60 years of the magical display. In the years that I’ve seen the windows I think this is the best Christmas windows yet – because there is a quintessentially Melbourne feel.

The 2015 Myer Christmas Windows are based on the picture book ‘Little Dog and the Christmas Wish‘ by Melburnians Corinne Fenton and Robin Cowcher. The book and the window are an homage to Melbourne set in the 1950s and many familiar Melbourne scenes act as backdrops to the story.

Spot the Skipping Girl Vinegar sign, the Regent Theatre, Block Arcade and the Hopetoun Tea Rooms, the tram tracks and W-class trams of 1950s on a rainy Melbourne day and the clocks of Flinders Street station. Even Myer’s Bourke Street store facade is featured!

Also admire the detail in the figurines, each wearing a custom-made outfit reflecting the styles of the 1950s.

The display is sure to delight young and old and I love the nostalgic, gentle feel of the display. Not too many animatronics, loud music or flashing lights and lots of landmarks to spot and details to appreciate.
