Melbourne monopoly 3

The first official Melbourne MONOPOLY game goes on sale today!

The game was unveiled by Mr MONOPOLY and Lord Mayor Robert Doyle as they revealed which twenty-two properties ended up on the final board after the public were invited to suggest Melbourne locations earlier this year.

Turns out the MCG has scooped the board’s most exclusive ‘Mayfair’ site, with second choice Federation Square being the other blue property.

The special edition Melbourne MONOPOLY also includes tokens representing Melbourne icons – a W-class tram (my favourite), take away coffee cup (which I thought was an urn for the Ashes or something like that), a Sherrin AFL football, graffiti spray can and a book representing Melbourne’s status as a UNESCO City of Literature.

Other Melbourne-centric twists can be found in the Community Chest and Chance cards. For instance, instead of winning $10 second prize at a beauty pageant, you receive a windfall for picking the winning horse at the Melbourne Cup; then spend your winnings purchasing AFL Grand Final tickets for (a bargain) $50.

The new MONOPOLY: Melbourne edition is available from all good toy stores including Big W, Australian Geographic, Toys R Us, Myer, David Jones, Harvey Norman Big Buys – Springvale, ABC stores, Kidstuff and Mind Games! Just in time for Christmas at $49.95.
