Footscray is making the most of the sunshine this month and hosting a new Footscray Night Market in the forecourt of Footscray train station. The small market features hawker stalls, design goods and buskers and will be sure to grow as support increases.
At the moment there’s not a lot of choice for food (especially if you’re vegetarian) but its proximity to Footscray CBD means you can just pop in for a bite or a snack before heading close by for something more substantial. Footscray certainly doesn’t lack eateries!
When we arrive at 4pm many of the stalls are still setting up. Most of the food isn’t available until around 5pm once the hot plates and barbecues start cranking up.
Footscray Night Market is conveniently located across the road from Footscray Market and Little Saigon or even the Coles supermarket at Footscray Plaza. So you can cover your grocery necessities then relax in the sun with some sticky chicken wings or a bargain miniature burger.
Be aware that there’s no shade so bring a hat and sunscreen. I’ve suggested to council that they install a big bank of portable water taps from City West Water (one of Footscray’s residents) so that you can wash your hands and fill up your reusable water bottles. Given that the Footscray Night Market is a pilot project council is open to receiving any feedback on the venture. In the meantime, go and support it and help it bigger and better!
