Ask the Doctor: Recommendations for Victoria Street

lost8 Ask the Doctor: Recommendations for Victoria Street

Help me Doctor!: I have gone out in Richmond twice now and not been overwhelmed with yummyness. Do you have any favourites along Victoria Street? – Kiki

Your prescription: You’re right Kiki. When it comes to Victoria Street I am a creature of habit, because I have been burned a couple of times by the various Anglo-Viet, Chinglish, ‘We specialise in every Asian cuisine’ restaurants that line this eat street.

So, I have two options for you:

Vietnamese = Pho Dzung Tan Dinh (aka Laughing Cow Laughing Chicken)

Chinese = Pacific House

I acknowledge that eating to and fro at these two restaurants might get a bit dull, so I’ll also direct you to a fantastic article in The Age reviewing every restaurant on Victoria Street. – Jetsetting Joyce

  1. My intelligence might be outdated, but when I lived in Melbourne nearly four years ago, I couldn’t walk past Pho Hien Vuong (obviously, for pho) and Thanh Thanh (for more general Vietnamese offerings). My Vietnamese grandmother even eats at the latter and she’s got very high standards.

    Oh god, I’m really looking forward to visiting Melbourne next month!

    • Hi Huy

      Thanks for the tip. I know that Asian grandmothers are VERY particular about their food, so I will have to extend my Victoria Street repertoire a bit more and try your two recommendations. Will report back!

      By the way, I think there is a restaurant on Victoria Street named after you – Huy Huy. Have you ever tried it?

  2. Nope, haven’t tried Huy Huy. You should try it and tell me if it’s worthy of my name.
