Help me Doctor!: Do you know where in Melbourne I can buy black sesame paste and matcha powder (green tea in powder form)? I have not noticed them in Asian grocery stores. – Jenny T
Your prescription: Perhaps you would have better luck with a Japanese specialist grocery store? Here are a list of Japanese grocery stores close or close-ish to the city:
- O Mu Ro, 9 Church St, Brighton +6 13 9591 0633
- Tokyo Deli, 418 Glen Huntly Rd, Elsternwick +61 3 9523 6200
- Tsukiji, 237 High St, Prahran +61 3 9510 2318 (though the focus is more on seafood)
- Fuji Mart, 34A Elizabeth St (nr Prahran Market) South Yarra +61 9826 5839
- Suzuran Japan Foods, Shop 16/210 Toorak Road/31 Chambers St, South Yarra +61 3 9804 7396 and 1025 – 1027 Burke Rd, Camberwell +61 3 9882 2349

Interesting that most of these stores are to the east of Melbourne. I am certain you will find stockist in the center of the City if you live in the west or north of town. Queen Victoria Market would be a great starting point.
